Hourly rides

Hire a car and driver by the hour across California — two-hour minimum, unlimited stops, waiting time included.

Last updated September 9, 2026

Hourly rides — also called as-directed or car-and-driver service — reserves a vehicle and driver for a block of time rather than a single journey. You keep the car between stops, change the route as the day develops, and pay by the hour instead of per trip.

First Class provides hourly booking across all ten of our California service areas, with a two-hour minimum and billing in clear increments after that. Waiting time between stops is already included in the hourly rate, so a delayed meeting or a longer dinner does not create a surprise charge.

When

Rides must be booked at least 4 hours ahead of pickup.

How hourly booking is priced

You book a start time and a number of hours. The quote shows the hourly rate, the minimum hours and the total before you confirm. If the day runs long, additional time is billed in fixed increments — typically 15 or 30 minutes depending on the fleet — at the same hourly rate, added as a visible line item after the ride rather than as a hidden markup.

The hourly rate covers the vehicle, the driver, fuel and waiting time between stops. Tolls, airport parking and any extras you request, such as a child seat, are itemised separately. Mileage far outside your booked city may attract a distance surcharge, which is shown on the quote before you book.

  • Two-hour minimum on every hourly booking.
  • Unlimited stops within the booked hours — no per-stop charge.
  • Waiting time included; overtime billed in clear increments.
  • Paid by card at booking, before the ride.

What hourly booking is used for

Hourly service suits any day where the schedule is fluid or the number of stops is unknown at booking. Our most common hourly bookings are investor roadshows in San Francisco and San Jose, legislative days in Sacramento, site visits in Bakersfield and Fresno, wedding transport across Los Angeles and Orange County, and evenings out where the return time is uncertain.

  • Corporate roadshows and multi-meeting days
  • Weddings, proms and milestone celebrations
  • Conference and convention shuttling between venues and hotels
  • Property, film location and site-visit tours
  • Nights out, restaurant and theatre evenings
  • City tours for visiting family and clients

How the day runs

Your driver arrives 10 minutes before the booked start time and is with you for the whole booking. Between stops they wait nearby, so the car is at the door when you are ready rather than being called back. You can add stops verbally on the day — nothing needs to be re-booked — and the driver records anything that changes the fare as a line item you approve.

For longer engagements the same driver drives you where hours allow. Where a day exceeds legal driving hours, we schedule a handover and tell you in advance which driver takes over and when.

Vehicles available by the hour

Every vehicle class can be booked hourly. Choose by party size and luggage: standard or executive sedan for one to three passengers, SUV for up to six, and Sprinter van for groups up to fourteen. Vehicle photos, seat counts and luggage capacity appear next to each quote so you can compare before booking.

Booking rules, changes and cancellation

Hourly rides must be booked at least 4 hours before the start time. Extending on the day is usually possible and is billed at the standard increment. Cancelling more than 2 hours before the start gives a partial refund; cancelling inside 2 hours is non-refundable, because the vehicle and driver are already committed to your block of time. Date and time changes are free more than 4 hours ahead.
